Company Description:
Smith Services 180,000 Square foot repair facility specializes in the repair of AC & DC motor repair. We service all manufactures from specialty fractional horsepower up through and including multi thousand horsepower units. The following is a brief listing of capabilities that makes Smith Services, Inc. unique and help to separate us from our competitors: 1) We had WV Manufacturing Extension Partnership (Division of WVU) perform a flow and efficiency study prior to moving into this new facility. Based on their findings we added equipment and restructured our workflow to overcome bottlenecks within our operation. 2) We have 5 Vacuum Pressure Impregnation systems in our shop for servicing motors One 2-Ft., One 5-Ft., Two 8-Ft. and one 12-Ft. system all utilizing 100% Epoxy Resin. Our two 8-foot and the 12-foot systems are totally automated. These systems track and document Vacuum Level dry & wet, Pressure Level, Part Temperature, Resin Temperature and Capacitance of the winding is charted and recorded. This is used to insure a void free winding. These features insure quality and repeatability. 3) We have three load centers, bay 1 test up to 500-HP, bay 3 test up to 1000-HP and bay 4 test up to 2500-HP. Our test voltage capabilities range from zero to 13,800 volt AC with current ranging from 1200 amps at 600 Volt up to 126 amps at 13,800 volt, as for DC we have from zero to 750 Volt up to 3,000 Amps on the large test center. We have the ability to handle up to a 25% overload for short period of time on the large dyno. 4) The Large Dyno with Eddy Current Clutch has the capability to load test Babbitt Bearing unit’s at 3600-RPM. 5) While performing testing on the large test center our customers can view the test via the Internet and be within 2 seconds of live data. The following information is available during load test. Hp, Rpm, Torque, Efficiency, Power Factor, Voltage, Amperage, Bearing Temperature and Stator Temperature. All of these items are captured simultaneously and displayed on the test screen. 6) We custom manufacture both AC & DC coils for motors up through 7200-Volts in house. We also have in excess of $ 700,000.00 of wire in our inventory. By having the ability to manufacture our coils this improves quality and turn time. Our turn time is usually 3 to 4 days quicker than our competition for rush jobs 7) We have the expertise and equipment to perform Spin Casting and Static Pour of Babbitt Bearings. In addition we have three men certified to perform UT (Ultra Sonic Testing). 8) We have a state of the art computerized repair tracking system. This enables anyone on the network to access real time data to provide you with updates or status of your job while in process. 9) We have 24 in house bridge cranes that help eliminate bottlenecks during workflow through the shop. These range from 10 ton through 100 ton. 10) We work 3 shifts 7 days per week. This enables quick and efficient turn time of your equipment. 11) We provide transportation of your critical equipment. Our experienced personnel operate trucks ranging from ?ton pick-ups up to and including tandems and tractor-trailers. With this it insures your equipment is handled in a professional manner. Many trucking companies know point A to point B. however; they do not know the proper means to handle Armatures to prevent damage to the Comm. or bearing fits. The same holds true for large AC motors as well. Not having the experience to properly block shafts can result in damage to sleeve bearings. The above are just a few of the items that separate us from our competitors. We invite you to review our web site for additional information.
